| Hope University is an extension of HopeSource, whose mission is to work closely with families to attain greater self-sufficiency. Hope University targets motivated individuals who are looking to make positive changes in their lives. The goal is to help low-income families learn how to do more with their limited resources, provide a better future for their children, attain stability in their careers, and potentially explore continuing educational options. Much like a traditional university, Hope University has a progressive curriculum that includes both entry-level and advanced courses. Students graduating from the program will have the tools and techniques they need to move their families steadily toward their goals. |
 |
The curriculum includes group learning, individual study, and one-on-one coaching in a credit-earning system. Classes are available at varying levels and students have the freedom to choose the classes that interest them or that have been identified as most appropriate for their progress in achieving their goals. Hope University was developed using best practices in life skills training, career development, finance, and parenting. As students complete their coursework, they will accumulate credits and be able to track their progress toward graduation from Hope University into permanent self-sufficiency for themselves and their families.
One of the key elements of Hope University is the NorthStar Employment Center. Students will have the option of working with NorthStar to pursue internship opportunities with local businesses or to secure successful long-term employment through job retention services.
Hope University classes are designed to be tailored for each individual and can extend from a few weeks to 12 months. Working with coaches, students will develop a flexible schedule that fits their needs and helps them make continual progress toward their goals.
Hope University offers classes and referrals for people who want to change the direction of their lives but lack the knowledge and resources to do so. The program follows a comprehensive family, career, and education-based approach to help students in the following areas:
- Job search & job retention
- Life & family skills
- Money management
- Vocational or continuing-education preparation
The Hope University staff is currently located at the HopeSource Building in Ellensburg, WA.
