The HopeSource Emergency Shelter continues to serve between 15 and 20 households per year. Most commonly the only vacancy the HopeSource Emergency Shelter experiences are during the cleaning between households. The success of this program is incredible as we have a nearly 100% success rate in moving households from homelessness to stable housing. Each household that enters into this program receives weekly case management to quickly help them address their barriers to stable housing and to work at an accelerated pace to overcome these barriers and stabilize their household in secure housing.
A few of our success stories:
A young couple that had lost their jobs and were sleeping in a tent last February were able to use the shelter while they got back on their feet. Within weeks of using the shelter facility they had both found full time jobs and were saving to get into their own apartment. Over the next 60 days the couple saved enough money for the deposit and first month’s rent on their own apartment and has been happily living there since.
Another family of four had suffered water damage to their trailer and were forced to sleep in their car. The children were still going to school and staying at their grandparent’s house a few nights a week. Using the stability of the shelter the children continued to go to school while the parents worked. Each weekend and in the evenings they would work on their damaged trailer until it was fixed. The family moved back into their trailer and has been living there for the last 7 months.
The HopeSource Emergency Shelter continues to assist households in Kittitas County avoid being homeless while they secure stable housing.
