HopeSource employee Sarah LaRue has a great
2009 Kittitas County Fair

For Sarah LaRue, spinner, knitter, and fiber arts enthusiast, the 2009 Kittitas County Fair couldn't have been better. Not only were more fair goers interested in the division than ever before, the Home Arts Barn where the Fiber Arts division resides won the Black and White State Fair Board award, the first time in 18 years. LaRue has been Assistant Superintendent for the last four years of the fair and has attended as a demonstration spinner for the last six years. Along with winning several first place ribbons for handspun skeins, knitted items, watercolor paintings, and scrapbooking pages, this year LaRue won Judges Choice for her ½ Project Basket entitled "Left Overs Blanket." The blanket is made up entirely of handspun yarns that have been left over from various other projects, such as socks, hats, and shawls. The blanket tells a story of each of these yarns, how they were processed and spun and where the final project ended up.

Projects pictured: Ashes, gray skein of yarn with swatch. Fall Sheep Card. Garden Rest watercolor, Herringbone Socks, and ½ Project Basket.
