Kittitas County Coalition for Human Rights is a private organization with no powers of coercion and they maintain the phone lines so that people who feel that their human rights have been violated can call in and they give them advice as to what agency might be able to help them out. In some instances they may even go with the client to a particular agency to advocate and help them but in most instances they will refer them to legal services provided to people on low income, or to any number of agencies that are affiliated. In addition to this they do education work in the community to make people aware of their human rights and what they can do when they have a problem or need assistance in this arena.

The staff includes two (ABE) Adult Basic Education Program instructors, and (ESL) English as a Second Language instructor and an office assistant. The Adult Basic Education Program offers instruction in basic reading, writing and math skills, in preparation for taking the (GED) General Education Development test. Students must be at least 16, and must enroll during the first six weeks of the quarter. An entrance session is required prior to enrollment and includes filling out a registration form, taking a reading and math test. After the tests are completed, an instructor will evaluate the results, select materials, and prepare an individual learning plan for students to proceed at their own pace.
