Supporting Local Youth, One Activity at a Time

Parenting can be a juggling act, especially when you have three kids with different needs. As their mother, Jessica knows how important it is to ensure they thrive.

She also knows how expensive it can be to provide after-school activities, especially on a tight family budget. That’s where the HopeSource Youth Scholarship Program comes into play.

Jessica’s family the scholarships to make sure that ongoing activities like swimming lessons, dance, soccer, and music continue in her children’s lives, even when they don’t fit into the family budget.

“I’m a big, big fan of having kids in sports and activities, things that they enjoy. It’s important to be part of a team, make friends and set goals.”

But the strategy isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each child needs something different.

“For my youngest, she has a lot of energy. Participating in sports gives her an outlet. Plus she’s super social. Soccer gives her a boost.”

Her son has played music since elementary school. Jessica uses the scholarships to help pay for his instrument rental, giving him confidence as he enters high school.

Her oldest daughter tried a variety of sports that ultimately she didn’t enjoy, until she found dance. Dance is now what gives her joy. “These activities can be really expensive,” Jessica said, “but it benefits her so much socially, emotionally and physically.”

Jessica is grateful that the scholarships are available for lower-income families.

“I appreciate the program because it’s so specific to the child’s needs. It’s awesome that our community has this resource so that all kids can participate.”
