Pathways Project Enters Construction Phase

HopeSource is proud to announce that the final document package for the Pathways Project has officially closed, clearing the way for construction to begin this week on the long-anticipated affordable housing development at 1200 South Ruby Street in Ellensburg.

Formerly the site of the Nites Inn Motel, the Pathways Project represents a multi-year effort to transform an underutilized property into a vibrant, community-centered multi-family development. Originally acquired by HopeSource in 2022, the vision for the site included strategic partnerships and layered funding for a 78-unit affordable housing development designed to serve individuals and families across a range of income levels.

The project includes both the adaptive reuse of the existing motel structure and new construction, resulting in a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. The development will also feature a community clubhouse and an open courtyard designed to foster connection and stability.

In early 2025, the project received support through the Washington State Housing Finance Commission’s 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program and the Housing Trust Fund, along with additional funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Connecting Housing to Infrastructure Program. Local investment from the City of Ellensburg and Kittitas County was instrumental in securing the site and advancing the project.

A critical component in bringing the project to this stage has been the partnership with Stewardship Development, whose collaboration expanded the scope and impact of the development into the comprehensive affordable housing now moving into construction.

“We are incredibly excited to see the Pathways Project move into the construction phase,” said Susan Grindle, CEO of HopeSource. “This project reflects years of partnership, planning, and persistence. Thanks to the support of our funding partners and our collaboration with Stewardship Development, we are now turning a long-held vision into reality. Pathways will create safe, stable, affordable housing and open the door to opportunity for dozens of families in our community for years to come.”

HopeSource currently owns and manages over 1,100 affordable housing units across four counties in Central Washington, providing not only housing but also wraparound support services that equip, encourage, and empower people to stabilize and thrive.
