HopeSource Teanaway Affordable Housing Development Enters Next Phase
HopeSource is proud to announce that Teanaway Court has officially reached financial closing as of July 10, marking the final step before construction begins on a long-awaited affordable housing development.
The project represents years of collaboration between local, state, federal, nonprofit, and private partners working toward a shared vision: creating more affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families in Upper Kittitas County.
To celebrate this milestone, a public groundbreaking ceremony will be held on August 20th at 11am, 401 N. Short Ave.
Construction began at the end of July with PWC Companies serving as General Contractor and completion anticipated in late 2027. The community is expected to welcome its first residents in early 2028.
"Moving to the construction phase of this project is the moment years of planning, collaboration, and community investment become reality," said Susan Grindle, CEO of HopeSource. "Teanaway Court represents what is possible when partners come together around a shared vision. Soon, dozens of individuals and families will have a safe, affordable place to call home, children will have access to quality early learning, and our community will be stronger because of it. We couldn't be more excited to begin construction."
Located in Cle Elum, Teanaway Court has been thoughtfully designed to address multiple community needs in one campus. The development will include 41 affordable apartment homes, with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units available to households earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
In addition to affordable housing, the project will feature a child development center with capacity for up to 66 children, helping meet the growing demand for early childhood education while providing critical support for working families throughout Upper Kittitas County. The property has also been designed with ample parking, open community spaces, and pedestrian-friendly site planning to create a welcoming neighborhood where residents can build connections and thrive.
The project is being developed in partnership with Blue Ridge Cascade, whose expertise in affordable housing development has helped bring the vision for Teanaway Court to life.
Like most affordable housing developments, Teanaway Court required years of planning and a complex funding package assembled from multiple public and private sources. Support for the project includes tax-exempt bonds and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits allocated by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission; the Washington State Housing Trust Fund, administered by the Washington State Department of Commerce; a HUD Community Project Funding grant secured with the support of Senator Maria Cantwell; Kittitas County; Enterprise Community Partners; Citi; SMR Architects; Blue Ridge Cascade; and numerous additional funding and financing partners committed to increasing housing opportunities in rural Washington.
Teanaway Court reflects HopeSource's commitment to Whole Person Care, creating communities where housing is paired with access to essential services that help people build long-term stability. By combining affordable homes with a child development center and community-centered design, the project will provide opportunities for families, seniors, and individuals to live, grow, and succeed in the community they call home.
As construction continues, HopeSource looks forward to sharing updates with the community as this long-awaited project takes shape over the coming months.
